Do you feel scared about going to the dentist? You're not alone. Many people feel this way. The good news is that sedation dentistry can help you relax and get the care you need.
What Is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry uses medicine to help you feel calm during dental work. Some people call it "sleep dentistry." But most of the time, you stay awake. You just feel very relaxed and peaceful.
At Dental Sedation Ottawa, we offer four types of sedation. We help you pick the one that works best for you.
Your Four Options
1. Laughing Gas (Nitrous Oxide)
Laughing gas is the mildest option. You breathe it through a small mask on your nose. In just a few minutes, you feel relaxed and maybe a little giggly.
The best part? It wears off fast. You can drive yourself home after your visit.
Good for: Quick cleanings, small fillings, mild nervousness.
2. Oral Sedation (A Pill)
With oral sedation, you take a pill about one hour before your visit. By the time you get to our office, you feel drowsy and calm. You're still awake, but you might not remember the visit later.
You'll need a friend or family member to drive you home.
Good for: Moderate fear, longer visits, people who don't like needles.
3. IV Sedation
IV sedation gives you medicine through a tiny needle in your arm. You fall into a deep relaxation. Most people don't remember anything about their treatment.
Good for: Strong fear, big procedures like wisdom teeth removal.
4. General Anesthesia (Deep Sleep)
General anesthesia puts you completely to sleep. You won't feel or remember anything at all.
At our clinic, real medical doctors called anesthesiologists give you this type of sedation. They watch over you the whole time to keep you safe.
Good for: Very strong fear, long procedures, patients with special needs.
Our Safety Promise
Our anesthesiologists, Dr. Hesham Talab and Dr. Asad Mirghassemi, have the same training as hospital doctors. They use hospital-level equipment to watch your heart, breathing, and oxygen. Your safety always comes first.
How Do I Choose?
We'll help you decide during your first visit. We'll ask about:
- How nervous you feel about dental work
- What treatment you need
- Your health history
- Any medicines you take
Then we'll suggest the best option for you. There's no pressure. We want you to feel comfortable with your choice.
Is It Safe?
Yes! Sedation dentistry is very safe when done by trained professionals. We have over 25 years of experience and follow all safety rules from Health Canada.
