We accept referrals for any case requiring sedation expertise or specialized infrastructure

Severe Dental Anxiety

Patients who cannot tolerate dental treatment due to panic attacks, phobia or years of dental avoidance.

Complex Surgical Extractions

Impacted wisdom teeth, nerve-adjacent cases, deeply fractured teeth, full-mouth extractions.

Pediatric Sedation

We offer sedation for children who require frenectomies or root canal treatments on adult teeth

Implants & Bone Grafting

Multiple implants, All-on-4, sinus lifts, and bone grafting under sedation or general anesthesia.

Full-Mouth Rehabilitation

Comprehensive dental treatment completed in 1-2 sedation appointments

What to Include in Your Referral

Patient Information — name, DOB, phone, email
Brief clinical description — chief complaint, teeth involved
Medical history summary — conditions, medications, allergies
Reason for referral — sedation required, surgical complexity, anxiety level
Recent radiographs — digital preferred (email to info@dentalsedationottawa.com)
Previous failed treatment attempts — if applicable
Insurance information — if available

Pre-Sedation Patient Instructions

For IV Sedation / General Anesthesia:

Fasting — No food for 8 hours before (typically from midnight). Clear liquids up to 2 hours before
Transportation — Patient must have a responsible adult to drive them home and stay with them for 12-24 hours
Medications — Patient should take regular medications with a small sip of water unless otherwise directed
Clothing — Loose, comfortable clothing. Short sleeves preferred for IV access
Pre-op consultation — For GA cases, we schedule a separate anesthesiology assessment to review medical history and clear the patient

Post-Treatment Communication

After treatment, you'll receive a comprehensive report including: treatment completed, sedation level and patient response, any complications or findings, post-operative radiographs (if taken), post-op instructions given, and follow-up recommendations. We encourage patients to return to your care for ongoing maintenance.
